It's hard to believe that I'm over halfway through the Live Healthy Iowa 10 Week Challenge! Our team has been logging a lot of activity minutes and while we're nowhere close to winning the challenge, I'm really proud of our team for being so active. To date, we have logged 12,991 activity minutes!
Here are are my logged activity minutes through the six weeks:
Week 1: 212
Week 2: 400
Week 3: 330
Week 4: 395
Week 5: 380
Week 6: 330
I've established a workout schedule that has been working really well for me. On Mondays and Fridays, I do a dance workout from Let's Get Up!. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I do a lifting workout, focusing either on lower or upper body. On Wednesdays, I do a spin class and on Sundays I do a total body workout using weights and resistance bands. Saturdays are rest days, as I do my grocery shopping and clean the house. If the weather is nice, David and I will go for a walk.
I really like the schedule. I like the different variety of workouts, mixing up cardio and strength training. I've also been aiming for 6,000-8,000 steps every day and that has helped me to keep moving throughout the day.
For my meals, I've been continuing to focus on a Mediterranean diet, focusing on vegetables, fruits, grains, healthy fats, and lean proteins. Here are a few photos of some of the meals I've been eating:
Salad with chopped veggies, grape tomatoes, canned tuna, sunflower seeds and G. Hughes Sugar-Free Stir-Fry Sauce.
Pasta with arugula and pistachio pesto and shrimp.
Whole wheat toast with hummus and hard-boiled eggs and a drizzle of sriracha sauce and cucumber and yellow bell pepper slices.
One of my favorite snacks: apple, Babybel Light cheese, and Brazil nuts.
I continue to feel good. I'm getting plenty of sleep and have focus and energy throughout the day.
I'm not going to lie - I continue to look at myself in the mirror and feel frustrated that the weight around my belly area is still hanging around. I've started buying bigger clothes.
But I promised myself that part of this 10-week challenge was going to include being kind to my body and stepping away from diet culture.
Some days are harder than others. I still find myself grieving over my younger body. But I also feel so incredibly blessed and grateful that I'm able to do the things that I do. Every day of life is a gift. Each day, I love my fit, fluffy, fabulous self more and more.
This, my friends, is 57.
