Life update

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm ready for June to be over. I'm ready for a clean slate with a new month. (Plus, July is my birthday month!)

David is feeling much better. He is using the walker and cane less and less each day. He saw the neurosurgeon this week and is scheduled to have surgery on his neck in early August. Hopefully in a couple of months, he'll be feeling back to normal.

Unfortunately, his father passed away and we had to make a trip to Ohio for the funeral. It was an emotional, exhausting time for him, but I also feel like a stressful load has been lifted from his mind. He has been so consumed with worry for his dad and I'm still convinced that the stress and worry contributed to his illness. But now that he doesn't have to worry about his dad anymore, I'm hoping he can now focus on his own health.

Between all of that, plus work, and just keeping my head above water with everything else, I took a break from my lifting program and tracking macros. It was just too much; my body was tired, and I was worried I would injure myself. So for a few weeks I walked a lot, I did some low-impact dance workouts, and I just tried to eat healthy as much as I could without stressing about if I was getting enough protein. I continued to meditate each morning and man, that has been a lifesaver!

I've also been trying to write in my journal each morning. I mainly use it to set goals for the day, which for me is important. Even if I just set small goals, it gives me purpose and direction. For instance, yesterday I knew it would be a full, busy day. I had deadlines at work to meet and I had to take David to see the neurosurgeon. But I still wanted to set some goals, so I decided that I would try to get in 5,000 steps (I ended up getting almost 7,000), I would drink 64 oz of water (I ended up drinking 80 oz), I would work out and try to eat as healthy as I could. I got a workout done in the morning, and ate healthy for the most part.

This week I started a new workout program and have started tracking food (mostly) again. The workout program is a different format from what I've been doing. There is body resistance training, weight training, and cardio. There are also moves using sliders, which I absolutely hate! But the moves are definitely effective. It feels good to be doing something different. I think it will wake up new muscles and stimulate my brain.

Before I sign off on this post, I wanted to give a quick update on Chewie. I get asked all of the time how he's doing. He's doing great! He has been the perfect addition to our dog family. He and the other two dogs get along really well and it's so funny watching him run around and do zoomies with the other two dogs. He also loves to wrestle with them. He is completely potty trained now. He has calmed down a lot since we first got him and makes a wonderful lap dog. I think as far as dogs go, he won the lottery, but we also feel lucky to have him. He loves having David at home. He's going to be one sad, little dog when David is recovered and goes back to work!
