Review of Let's Get Up!

Today I completed Let's Get Up!, available on BODi (formerly Beachbody on Demand). Let's Get Up! is a 4-week program consisting of six 30-minute workouts a week. The workouts consist of cardio and resistance training using choreographed dance moves. Shaun T, the trainer, even throws in some Insanity moves. (Shaun T is the creator of the Insanity programs.)

At the end of each workout, I'd be dripping with sweat, but somehow smiling because the workouts are so much fun! If you love to dance, this is the program for you.

Here was the workout schedule:

Five days a week were dance cardio days. We would do some warm-up dance moves and then do a "tone and tighten" section that involved a lot of lunges and squats. Then we would move on to the choreography section, where we learned the dance moves. Shaun broke up the moves into two different sections, and we would repeat several times. Then, because Shaun T is Shaun T, we would have a "Moment of Insanity" section of some cardio moves that would kick our butts, and after that we'd run through the choreographed dance several times.

The "Let's Tone Up", "Show Up and Lift", "Livin' in the Weights", and "Feel Strong" workouts were strength training days. The format would be the same as the dance cardio days, only instead of doing dance moves, we would do moves using light weights. And by light weights, I mean that I was using 5-lb weights, and occasionally 8-lb if I was feeling particularly strong that day. The moves were too fast-paced to use anything heavier, and there were a lot of reps, so my muscles would be burning by the end of each set.

Overall, I loved this program. Dancing is one of my favorite things to do, and even though I'd be huffing and puffing and my muscles would be on fire, I'd be smiling because I was having so much fun. Shaun T has a great energy and just makes the workouts fun, even when he's kicking your ass! The cast was high-energy and there was one woman in particular who was 60 years old and was so inspirational. The workouts were filmed outdoors at a location in Hawaii, so the scenery was beautiful as well.

There is a moderator in the cast if you wanted to keep all of the moves low impact. At no time did we have to move down to the floor. All of the moves were done standing up. And each day would be a different dance, so we did all types of dance styles, such as hip hop, jazz, disco, Latin, etc.

The message throughout this program was to love your body, no matter where you're at in your journey, no matter what size you are, no matter how old you are. I love that!

One of the big improvements that I noticed at the end of this program was my increased flexibility. One of my goals for 2024 is to improve my mobility and this program was extremely beneficial for that.

I decided that I'm going to repeat the program, only I'll substitute the strength training days with a different program that is a slower pace and allows for heavier weights. I may also add a spin class each week because I miss doing that, but just haven't had room in my recent workout programs to do it.

Note: I decided to stick with BODi. I thought I wanted to try something different, but honestly, I think I would miss the structure of the BODi programs and the trainers too much. Plus, they have a sale right now that if you buy a year subscription, you get a second year free! It works out to be about $7.50 a month. What a deal! I couldn't pass it up.

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to make any sales for BODi. They don't pay me to say nice things. I just genuinely love the workout programs.
